Employee Highlights!

MEET ALEXANDER WATSON

STREETCAR OPERATOR

Alexander Watson began his career at King County October 22, 1999. He later joined Seattle Streetcar May 5, 2016. "Being a Streetcar Operator is very rewarding," says Alex. "The most rewarding part is being out in the public and providing a service for the people." Additionally, being a Streetcar Operator is a very good job. This a job for anyone seeking a change in their transit career to the railways.

After a long day at work operating the streetcar, I find being a pet owner helps keep me grounded. Finding and maintaining that balance in life helps me to be my best in operating the streetcar on a daily schedule in my career.

MEET DEBORAH WATERS

STREETCAR SERVICE WORKER

Deborah Waters began her career at King County in May 2007 driving for Metro as a Part Time Operator. She drove for one year before transferring to Vehicle Maintenance as an Equipment Service Worker. She found this to be an interesting position, which involved cleaning and fueling the buses. She joined Link Light Rail on May 26, 2009 as a Rail Service Worker, this time servicing Light Rail Vehicles. "I learned to operate trains-how fun is that?" Deb was at Link for almost eight years and continued to have her eye on Seattle Streetcar. She waited patiently for a position to open then was hired December 5, 2016. "I work with a wonderful group of transit like-minded people, its smaller than bus or rail, it’s also close knit and you get to know each other well," says Deb. Deb details the streetcars at both South Lake Union (SLU) and First Hill Streetcar (FHS), so she "is never without a change of pace." Deb says that she has "appreciated [her] career at King County and [has] learned many lessons and met many talented people along the way. Transit is a great career, I would highly recommend it."

On the Move at Streetcar

Meet Robert Ibsen

First Hill Streetcar Electro-Mechanic

Robert has lived in Shoreline all of his life. He has always been interested in how things work and how to fix anything broken. He enjoys plumbing, electrical and automotive work, and construction. He was an automotive technician for two Volkswagen dealers locally before working for streetcar in 2016.  He has a son and chocolate lab that keeps him busy. Helping keep the streetcars running and clean as best as he can keeps his curiosity indulged. Robert enjoys meeting all of the operators and helping them minimize the stress of their job.
